What does the future hold for me?

So...for the last two or three months I have been thinking about this and considered blogging about it. Then today I read an article in a magazine about a mother having the same thoughts as me. I decided to go ahead and blog, combining her thoughts with mine.

Makell, my youngest child, graduated from high school in May and got engaged in April. She will soon be out of the home, leaving me with an "empty nest". I've defined myself as a mother for 30 years. Who am I now? In my quest to help my children grow wings, I forgot to grow some of my own. Can I find a new sense of purpose? What does the future hold for me? I guess time will tell.......

Bittersweet

So.....I registered Makell last week for her Senior year in high school. As we were driving to the high school I realized that this was the last registration for my last child. I waited for the tears to come, but they didn't. I was actually happy -- mostly happy for Makell. She's been anxious to be a Senior for a long time.

The first day of her Senior year is tomorrow. Again, there will not be tears, but it will be a little bittersweet. I think back and remember all the wonderful times I have had as a mother raising my children and now those times are all but done. All I can do now is look forward to a new stage of my life and hope that it can be as sweet and wonderful as the past has been.

I love you, Makell! Good luck with your Senior year!

The new kitchen floors! Tyson did a wonderful job! It looks so good, mom loves it!

Makell is Going to State Track!!

Makell at the District Track Meet on May 7th & 8th.

Here she is preparing to run the 100 meter hurdles.
She qualified to go to State Track which is in Boise on
May 14th & 15th! YAY!!! She's so excited! I wish her the
best of luck and hope she can do her very best, but
most of all I hope she has fun and enjoys the experience.

Makell invited Tyler to go to the Sadie Hawkins Dance.

The theme for the dance was "A Night At the Movies"

and they were supposed to dress up like a couple

from a movie. Makell and Tyler dressed up like

Peter Pan and Tinkerbell. They made a pretty cute couple.

Thank heavens Tyler was a good sport and was willing to

wear tights, hat, etc.

Fun in the snow!

We got lots of snow during the week of Christmas. While Jason was home he decided to help the little girls -- Daisy, Chelsey and Emily -- build a snowman. It turned out to be a pretty awesome snowman. I think it's about the best one I've ever seen. The girls decided to name him Frosty! :o) Jason and the girls rolling up the first big ball for the snowman's body.

The snow was so heavy, they knew they would need some help getting the next big ball up on top of the first one, so they decided to recruit some help, so Carina and Grandma went out to help.

Meet our version of "Frosty".

After they were done building the snowman, Jason and the girls decided it would be fun to build a cave in the snow. Jason dug and dug and dug and then the girls got to crawl up in it and have their picture taken!

We also had a lot of fun sliding down the big hills Grandpa Mont had made scraping off the driveway. All in all, we had a pretty fun day playing in the snow!

I'm way slow in getting these pictures put on the blog, but decided I would do it anyway. Since Makell turned 16 in November, she was able to go to Winter Ball this year. It was girls' choice and she asked Tyler Beddes. They looked cute together and had a really fun time!

Today is the first day of school for Makell. Doesn't she look cute in her new "back to school" clothes?! She's excited (?) to be back to school and to be a Sophomore this year. We love you Makell and wish you a fun and successful school year!!

Girls' Day Out!!

On Saturday we had our annual Girls' Day Out. We went to the Playmill in West Yellowstone and saw two shows -- "Hello Dolly" and "Oklahoma". We also had an old fashioned photo taken and ate lots and lots of yummy food. We had tons of fun being together and are already looking forward to going again next summer. (We really missed Amy, though, and will be glad when she lives closer so that she can come with us, too.)

Manti Pageant and Temple Square

Stake Youth Conference

Makell went to Manti on a Stake Youth Conference over the weekend. They left Friday at 6:00 a.m. and stopped in Salt Lake to take a tour of the Humanitarian Center. While there they dropped off the quilts they had tied earlier at a Stake youth activity. They then went on to Manti and attended the pageant that night. Saturday they headed home, but stopped in Salt Lake again and went to Temple Square to see the Joseph Smith movie in the Legacy Theater. They then went to a church house and held a testimony meeting. They arrived home about 9:00 p.m. All in all, Makell had a good time. She thought the pageant was great! She just wished the traveling hadn't been so long. She came home pretty tired and ready for some sleep in her own bed.

Well, we've gone and done it! Yes, we've gone and done the blog thing, too. Everyone (mainly Jason) kept bugging us to get one started, but I'm not sure why. We live a pretty boring life. If we can figure out how to do pictures, etc., maybe we can make it a little more exciting. Anyway, check back later for more boring fun! :)
